Jade enrolled at Harold Washington to study marketing, and her ideas about community college quickly changed.
District Director of Financial Aid Leticia Garcia has a long history with City Colleges of Chicago. While still in high school, she took classes at City Colleges. She never imagined that, years later, she’d return to help students finance their higher education goals.
Leticia’s 19 years of experience in higher education have been impactful. She enjoys helping students find alternatives for paying for college and loves when they come back to share their success stories with her.
“Our goal is to transition students to a four-year university with less debt,” Leticia said. “I’m proud of what we offer and what we stand behind.”
City Colleges hasn’t just been a positive place for Leticia, but for her family as well. Both her children graduated from high school with their associate degrees from Daley College. Her daughter also earned an associate degree in accounting from Malcolm X before transferring to a four-year university, and Leticia’s husband received his GED and a manufacturing certificate from Daley. Her son is now an engineer, and her daughter is about to graduate with her bachelor’s degree in administration.
Leticia not only helps students but ensures, as a leader, her team members have the tools needed to succeed. Because of her dedication, Leticia earned the 2024 City Colleges of Chicago Luminary award.
