All eyes were on the runway for the annual Truman College Cosmetology and Barbering Spring Showcase. For the past ten years, cosmetology students have put their models’ best foot forward to wow the crowd with their dazzling looks. More recently, the barbering students have joined in the fun, showing the technical and artistic skills they’ve learned in class.
“Our advanced students participate as a course requirement, but any student can show off their creativity and skill,” says Carlesheia Dixon,
training specialist in the cosmetology program. “They all get a chance to show off their vast talents.”
Using the Met Gala as inspiration, each participant secured a model. With about 75% being Truman students, this really is a college community affair.
Just one of a series of events, cosmetology and barbering students are able to show off their skills throughout the academic year. The Barber Battle, for example, is a live competition where barbers perform cuts in real time. In the fall, cosmetology students compete in categories such as “Red Carpet Looks,” “Bridal,” “Braid Art,” or “Fantasy,” really letting their creativity shine.
Watch the students in action in the two videos below.
