IBM is launching a new innovation hub on Chicago’s South Side that the company says will create 750 new full-time jobs, with a portion of those hired to come from a new City Colleges of Chicago apprenticeship program.

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker and IBM announced Wednesday the company’s new FutureNow Chicago delivery center at the Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park (IQMP), a 128-acre campus located at the former U.S. Steel South Works plant on the city’s South Side. The first phase of the IQMP campus is scheduled for completion in 2027.

According to IBM, “FutureNow Chicago will serve as an innovation and delivery hub, helping IBM clients and industry partners solve complex, real‑world business and technology challenges while creating clear pathways to careers for local Illinois talent.”

IBM also says it’s committed to hiring one-third of the qualified graduates from the City Colleges apprenticeship program, which the company says will support 500 apprentices over the next five years.  According to Wednesday’s announcement, City Colleges is working with the philanthropic community, including the Chicagoland Workforce Funders Alliance, and the State of Illinois to support the work.
