October 2021 is Manufacturing Month at Daley College

Manufacturers say their biggest challenge is finding skilled workers, and Daley College is helping to fill that need

To help fill the need for more skilled workers in the trades, Richard J. Daley College will hold the much-anticipated event— Ignite Your Future from 8:30am to 1pm on Thursday, October 28, for those interested in learning more about these career pathways that include welding engineering tech, electrical construction, industrial engineering, manufacturing tech, and more. The event will feature tours, free lunch, panel discussions and networking with industry leaders. This event is free and open to the public. To register click here.

Daley College is located at 7500 South Pulaski Road in Chicago and continues to respond to the changing needs of Chicago and its people by augmenting traditional studies with the technical, career, and occupational curricula that prepare students for the future economy.

During the event, manufacturing leaders will share their experiences on two panels, tackling topics of:

  • Incorporating Automation to Increase Production
  • Finding – or Creating – Your Workforce

Also, participants will be able to network with panelists during lunch, compliments of Huntington Bank, and join a tour of the new Advanced Manufacturing Labs at the Manufacturing Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC) at Daley College.

“And more good news, the Gene Haas Foundation is donating $250,000, over five years, to Daley for Computer Numerical Control Programming or CNCP for our students,” said Janine Janosky, Ph.D., and President of Daley  College. “CNC programming is available to high school juniors and seniors as well as adult learners. “This donation will truly make an impact preparing young people for their future career paths and helping adults reskill and upskill so they can change jobs or even get that promotion at work.”

“The programs at Daley College have been providing cutting edge training in advanced manufacturing and CNC technology for many years. HFO Chicago is a proud partner of the programs here and we are so excited for the investment the Gene Haas Foundation has made to help these programs expand and thrive to serve even more members of the greater Chicago area.  We are excited to see career awareness and pathways in advanced manufacturing opened for the youth and adult populations in the region and look forward to being a strong partner and advocate for pathways to prosperity in manufacturing,” said Toni Neary, Director of Education at Morris Group – Haas Division / HFO Chicago

“In a recent survey asked of students taking their SAT tests found that 53% of high school seniors don’t believe that they will have an opportunity to have a good job. The primary mission of the Gene Haas Foundation is to give HOPE to young people by showing them a good career opportunity and scholarships to those who choose CNC technology,” said Kathy Looman, Director of Education at Haas Foundation.

Today’s manufacturing workers are innovators and entrepreneurs, creators, makers and dreamers. Manufacturers produce mechanical parts that now orbit the earth on the international space station and build the nation’s first ever mass-produced all-electric pickup truck. Manufacturing Month is also a time to take stock of the challenges facing the manufacturing industry.
