Students hold signs reading "CONGRATS!"

On Thursday, April 10, 2025, Richard J. Daley College students, faculty, and staff celebrated the college’s 65th anniversary at a lively event with community partners and elected officials.

The celebration included performances by the Chicago State University Marching Band, a panel discussion, and remarks from City Colleges of Chicago Chancellor Juan Salgado, Daley College President Janine Janosky, Cook County Commissioner John P. Daley, and more.

“It has been an incredible joy to learn the history of Richard J. Daley College and be of service to the community,” said President Janine Janosky.

“President Janosky, you’ve have had a great commitment to the students and, on behalf of my family and myself, I thank you,” said Commissioner John Daley, son of the college’s namesake.

Daley College was founded as William J. Bogan Junior College in 1960 and was housed within the William J. Bogan high school— both located in the Ashburn neighborhood. In 1970, the college moved to an interim campus in the West Lawn neighborhood at 7500 S. Pulaski Road. The present campus was completed in 1981. In 1976, a week after the death of Richard J. Daley, the college was renamed in honor of the late mayor.
