The joint venture, expected to break ground next year, will bring increased job opportunities to Malcolm X students and lab support to UChicago’s new cancer center, officials said Tuesday.
WASHINGTON PARK — The University of Chicago and City Colleges of Chicago’s joint health campus is expected to break ground at the beginning of next year in Washington Park,
which officials say will provide needed jobs in health science on the South Side.
The campus, originally announced in 2024, will be located between the Garfield Green Line CTA station and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. It will include a UChicago pathology lab building and a Malcom X College South Side learning center, officials announced at a Tuesday community meeting.
The lab will create 550 jobs, officials said Tuesday. Of these, 350 would be transferred from the medical center’s main campus in Hyde Park, along with 200 new jobs, said Catina Latham, senior vice president for community health transformation for UChicago Medicine.
