This weekend, two Washburne Culinary and Hospitality Institute students competed in Les Dames d’Escoffier Chicago’s inaugural Chicago Great Bakes Challenge—an exclusive showcase where ten exceptional women from local culinary schools competed for career-boosting prizes and experiences with industry leaders. The competition was judged live by some of Chicago’s most esteemed baking and pastry professionals.

Student Jessica Manuel presented a truffle with hibiscus and lemon, while student Mercedes Fabela’s roasted garlic and rosemary sourdough bread with a fig jam earned her a third-place win. She received $500 and an experience to create her own custom frozen novelty at Pretty Cool Ice Cream.
