Victor Muñoz, Director of First Year Experience at Wilbur Wright College, has been selected as an Excelencia in Education Policy Fellow — a national leadership opportunity that supports higher education professionals advancing Latine student success through policy, leadership, and institutional innovation.

Muñoz joins a cohort of leaders from colleges and universities that have earned the Seal of Excelencia, a national certification recognizing institutions that intentionally serve Latine, and all students through demonstrated excellence in data, practice, and leadership.

As a Seal-certified institution and participant in Excelencia in Education’s Public Leadership initiative, Wright College continues to strengthen student-centered practices to create meaningful opportunities for students. Muñoz’s selection reflects both his leadership and the college’s ongoing commitment to equity, access, and student success.

“As a first-generation college student, I know firsthand that navigating higher education is about more than just hard work,” Muñoz said. “It is about having access to systems designed for your success. Being named an Excelencia Policy Fellow is a deeply personal honor that allows me to bridge the gap between student-centered advocacy and rigorous policy. It also means having a seat at the table to ensure the lived experiences of our Latine community, and all students, are reflected in the processes that guide their academic journeys.”

Muñoz said the fellowship will not only deepen his understanding of higher education policy but also help bring new ideas and strategies back to City Colleges students and staff.

“I am committed to a student-centered approach that builds on City College’s strong foundation of service,” he said. “This fellowship offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with national leaders to further innovate our processes. I look forward to bringing those insights back to our team to help us scale our successes, ensuring our policies remain as dynamic and supportive for the students that we serve from their very first day on campus.”

City Colleges of Chicago congratulates Muñoz on this national recognition and looks forward to the continued impact this opportunity and his leadership will have on students at Wright College and across the district.
