  • Beginning spring 2026, CPS Early College high school students can earn dual credit in barbering—allowing them to graduate with college credits or even an associate degree, reducing time and cost to completion.
  • The barbering program is career and business-Focused Training
  • Students gain hands-on technical skills (cutting, shaving, grooming, sanitation, customer service) alongside essential business knowledge such as marketing, finance, licensing, insurance, and shop management.
  • Stackable credits with Licensure Pathway

The program offers an Advanced Certificate or an Associate in Applied Science—preparing students to sit for the Illinois Barber Examination upon completion.

  • With barbering employment projected to grow 7–10% and increased demand for personalized grooming services, the program aligns students with high-demand, family-sustaining wage careers.
  • Supported by the Workforce Education Initiative, the program reflects a long-standing CPS–CCC collaboration focused on workforce development, and building a skilled local talent pipeline on the South Side as well as supporting the dreams and career goals of our students
  • The Chicago Roadmap creates a seamless, low-cost pathway to college. It provides free, in-high-school, college-level courses, personalized advising, and direct, guaranteed transfer options to four-year institutions like UIC
