The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers-Wilbur Wright College Chapter has been named a recipient of a 2024-2025 National Chapter Award, making it the first community college chapter ever to receive this national recognition.

The award honors Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) chapters that demonstrate exceptional leadership, service, and impact in empowering and elevating Hispanics in STEM. Wright’s SHPE Chapter was recognized for its commitment to academic excellence, professional development, and community engagement. The chapter was recognized during the SHPE National Convention in Philadelphia on October 30.

Since its inception in 2016 by a group of Engineering 111 students and first Engineering Pathways Cohort, Wright’s SHPE Chapter has grown into a thriving community of support and opportunity for students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Beginning next year, the chapter will expand its reach as the City Colleges of Chicago SHPE Chapter, welcoming Hispanic students from all City Colleges STEM programs.

Congratulations to Wright’s SHPE Chapter on this groundbreaking achievement and for paving the way for future generations of Hispanic leaders in STEM.
