The OELW advanced certificate program at DTI delivers industry-aligned training for those pursuing roles as overhead electricians or electrical line workers. ComEd created an OELW scholarship fund in 2021 to help remove financial barriers to enrolling in the program, steadily increasing its investment in the program since then. Eligible candidates stand to earn scholarships of $5,500 for the cost of tuition and $1,000 to cover other education expenses.

The beginning of a new semester is always an exciting time, and Welcome Week sets the tone for a successful year ahead. Across our seven colleges, students are being greeted with opportunities to learn and connect through events that promote community, highlight resources, and aim to provide a strong start to the Fall semester.

Here’s a glimpse of what’s happening across the district:

Harold Washington College invites students to begin the year with a Welcome Breakfast and explore opportunities to get involved  through its Student Involvement Fair.

Harry S Truman College is supporting students through its First Year Experience team, offering guidance on time management, study skills, and navigating campus resources. Students were also treated to the college’s New Student Convocation and Welcome Picnic.

Kennedy-King College welcomes new students during its New Student Convocation, a signature event that fosters campus pride and builds community.

Malcolm X College is preparing student leaders with an interactive SGA orientation session focused on leadership development, event planning, and strategies for creating impactful student organizations. Food and giveaways are included.

Olive-Harvey College is hosting its annual Welcome Back Jamboree, featuring music, games, giveaways, and more—plus their popular ice cream social and speed-friending event to help students make meaningful connections.

Richard J. Daley College is providing a week of activities, beginning with a session on the benefits of using a student planner, Welcome Days on the Patio, and Club Information Days.

Wilbur Wright College is encouraging the student body to meet members of the Student Government Association and participate in community-building activities like human bingo.

At City Colleges of Chicago, Welcome Week is more than just celebration—it’s about creating connections, equipping students with the tools to succeed, and beginning the academic year with energy and purpose. We wish every student a safe, successful start to the Fall 2025 semester!
