It’s official—the City Colleges of Chicago School of Engineering has launched for the Fall 2025 semester. Led by Dr. Doris Espiritu, Wright College’s successful engineering program model has now expanded to Harold Washington College and Truman College.

For City Colleges students interested in engineering and computer science, the launch of the School of Engineering provides increased access to high-quality education and transfer pathways, including guaranteed admissions into the Grainger College of Engineering at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. You can learn more at www.ccc.edu/engineering.

This development has been coming together since the engineering pilot program launched at Wright College in 2015. Since then, the program has grown from nine students to over 650, with completers having gone on to graduate from top engineering programs across the state and country and secure high-demand, high-paying positions at notable companies. Universities and employers continue to turn to City Colleges students and alumni to fill their seats and their positions. You can read some of their stories here.

As part of the launch, Dr. Doris Espiritu, who founded the engineering program at Wright College and spearheaded the program’s growth across the system, is serving as the Districtwide Dean and Head of the School of Engineering. In this position, she leads the School of Engineering at all of its sites: Wright, Truman, and Harold Washington Colleges, where we are currently expanding, and Olive-Harvey and Daley Colleges, where expansion will come next.

If you are interested in joining the engineering program, please email engineering@ccc.edu and despiritu@ccc.edu directly. Additionally, Dr. Espiritu and the School of Engineering will soon be hosting office hours at all active School of Engineering sites, where you can learn more and get your questions answered. The hours will be posted at www.ccc.edu/engineering, so stay tuned.
