A dozen students are on their way to a high-demand career in professional painting, boosting their skills and confidence with a three-day painter skills program at Arturo Velasquez Institute, in partnership with Sherwin-Williams. At the end of the last day, completers received ther certificates in a small ceremony.

Congressman Jesus Garcia, who was instrumental in bringing the training to Daley College, joined Daley College Interim President Peggy Korellis and the students as they were presented with their certificates. Addressing the newly certified painters, the City Colleges community, and other supporters, he emphasized the importance of trades-based trainings that lead to jobs that help fill gaps within industries.

Participants who attended the training not only prepared ahead of time with 12 Sherwin-Williams online modules, they then learned everything from the basics to the tools and materials, effective surface preparation, safety, and more. The last day helped students prepare for the job market with an effective resume. Daley College and satellite campus Arturo Velasquez Institute hope to offer the class again in the fall.
