On February 13th, students in the barbering program at Harry S Truman College spent time providing free haircuts to U.S. Military Veterans at the Rauner Veteran Facility, a housing community with 90 units serving veterans from all branches of service.
“Our residents have faced immense challenges in their past and continue to do so today, so these kinds of services help boost their spirits and confidence,” said Risa Stegall of the Rauner Veteran Facility.
But it’s not just a valuable experience for the recipients of the services – the barbering students have the opportunity to put their skills into action.
“Once a student graduates from our barbering program, they are eligible to take their licensure exam. Then, they can go right into the work force,” says Thanika Curney, Training Specialist-Director of Cosmetology and Barber Department at Truman College.
