On Tuesday, February 11th, the Harold Washington College President’s Gallery opened Our Environment, a collaborative multimedia exhibition showcasing the incredible work of HWC students enrolled in Professor Paige Kiehl’s English 102: Composition and Rhetoric II.
“I’m so proud of my students’ work on this exhibition. They embraced new writing styles beyond our class curriculum and collaborated cross-departmentally to create something truly exceptional. Through their writing and artwork, they shared not only their creativity and insight, but also a piece of themselves with the larger HWC community,” said Professor Kiehl.
Twenty-two students have their artwork on display in the gallery.
“I had an eye-opening experience with my artwork. I got to connect with my team about their environment and what it meant to them. Seeing everyone’s different perspectives of how people see things is beautiful and calm,” said Zell Wilson, who collaborated on a free verse poem entitled “The Shape of Us” with Diana Fernandes and Annie Qin.
The opening reception was hosted by Curator Anneli Goeller and Preparator and Collections Manager Anna Pontius. The exhibition offers a thought-provoking reflection on our relationship with the environment, presented through both visual and written expressions. All student artists and writers were in attendance to engage with guests and share the inspiration behind their work.
HWC students, faculty and staff can visit the gallery any time the building is open.
