Director of Compliance for the Adult Education Department at City Colleges of Chicago Kenneth G. Balcarcel has been selected as a 2025 Civic Leadership Academy (CLA) Fellow by the University of Chicago’s Center for Effective Government. The CLA is an esteemed program designed to empower the next generation of civic leaders across Chicago and Cook County. Kenneth joins the eleventh cohort of this development program which is dedicated to fostering innovative collaboration and promoting effective governance.

The CLA program brings together a diverse cohort of leaders from the nonprofit, government, and civic sectors to engage in leadership training, peer collaboration, and mentorship. The program, which includes world-class instruction and a collaborative final project, also offers fellows the opportunity to travel internationally for a Global Practicum in Paris to engage with global civic leaders. Through the program, Kenneth will further develop strategies for addressing systemic issues and contribute to lasting, positive change within City Colleges and the broader civic community.

Kenneth’s selection to the CLA reflects not only his outstanding leadership in compliance but also his dedication to creating meaningful change in his community. Additionally, Kenneth serves at the very institution where he once learned English, further exemplifying the transformative power of education. We are excited to see the continued impact he will have as he embarks on this next chapter of his leadership journey.
