Chancellor Juan Salgado has focused his career on creating opportunities for Chicagoans to advance their education and their lives. This week, he was recognized for those efforts with the “Building Communities Together” Award from the Spanish Coalition of Housing.
Chancellor Salgado received the award at the Spanish Coalition for Housing’s fall “Making Dreams Come True” event on Thursday, October 17. The organization highlighted that, under Chancellor Salgado’s leadership, City Colleges created a signature debt forgiveness program, increased graduation rates, and prioritized student housing.
“Building communities together is what City Colleges of Chicago is all about,” Chancellor Salgado shared. “Partnerships with community and non-profit organizations are critical to City Colleges’ ability to serve our students with housing, food, mental health and other basic needs. Spanish Coalition for Housing is proving it is a solvable challenge.”
Working together over the last year, the Spanish Coalition for Housing has supported more than 200 City Colleges students and community members in accessing utility and rental assistance, mortgage assistance/foreclosure prevention, homebuyer education, and financial education and counseling.
