Two alumni from City Colleges of Chicago have been recognized as finalists for the Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching. Melissa Pantoja and Precious Allen join the esteemed group of 30 finalists of Pre-K to 3rd grade teachers for this award.

The Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Teaching highlights outstanding educators who leave a lasting, positive impact on students’ lives and school communities. These finalists demonstrate remarkable contributions to their students’ growth and learning through their innovative teaching approaches and successful outcomes.

The recipients of the 2024 Golden Apple Awards will soon receive a surprise announcement. As part of their recognition, they will receive a spring sabbatical from Northwestern University and a $5,000 cash prize. Additionally, they will become Fellows of the Golden Apple Academy of Educators, joining a community dedicated to shaping the future of teaching through programs like Golden Apple Scholars and Accelerators, which aim to address the teacher shortage in Illinois.

The Golden Apple Foundation, a nonprofit organization, remains committed to preparing, honoring, and supporting educators in their mission to inspire and educate future generations.
