On December 5, 2023, Wilbur Wright College held its renown Engineering Idea competition for first-year students. Approximately 30 student teams competed  to win the competition and to win a scholarship. The winner of the $5,000 scholarship is Alondra Gonzalez and the team winners are:

  • 1st Place: Team 22  AquaGlo
  • 2nd Place: Team 7  Bionic Hand
  • 3rd Place: Team 15 Non-Newtonian Vest

“I’m so proud of all our students who took part in this competition and their impressive projects. It’s really special and inspiring to see so much innovation and creativity, all about making things healthier and safer, in one place.” said President David Potash, Wilbur Wright College. “I am confident that these future engineers will change our world for the better.”

The competition is held for first year students who are in their first semester and in the Engineering Success class, a course that covers three critical dimensions on student success that are: professional skills, engineering skills and student skills. The competition was judged by City Colleges of Chicago industry partners that included Metropolitan Water Reclamation District, Chicago Quantum Exchange, and Civic Tech. The winner of the $5,000 scholarship is Alondra Gonzalez.
