"We are supporting students directly...some of our best efforts is to reach the students who wouldn't normally go to college," said Veronica Herrero, City Colleges of Chicago. "How do we become student ready."

The discussion is about how a college degree can be the primary vehicle for reducing poverty and closing the wealth gaps between people of color.  How do colleges, like City Colleges of Chicago become student ready to offer students flexibility, financial and individual supports?

“Our enrollment is going up. The way that we think about it, our reach is getting greater. As a mission based  public institution, our goal is to reach as many Chicagoans as we can, especially those that need us the most. The fact is we are increasing equitably. We are seeing the greatest retention increases among Black and Latine/x males as well as among our Black and Latine/x females. I would attribute our enrollment increases to our partnership with Chicago Public Schools called the Chicago Roadmap,” said Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff Veronica Herrero,  City Colleges of Chicago.
