This week, September 11 to September 17, is recognized as National Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Week, celebrating colleges and universities with an undergraduate student population that is at least 25% Latinx. Of the seven City Colleges of Chicago, five qualify as HSIs.
In celebration of HSI Week, on Monday, September 11, 2023, Chancellor Juan Salgado participated in a roundtable discussion in Washington, D.C. with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and the U.S. Department of Commerce. Alongside other HSI leaders from across the country, he spoke with Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo about the importance of both HSIs and community colleges. Chancellor Salgado also shared City Colleges’ commitment to supporting our growing Latinx student population and providing all of our students with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed.
Additionally, earlier this week, HACU announced that Barbara Meschino and María I. Gutiérrez of Malcolm X College have been selected to join the fifth cohort of its Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo. Click here to learn more.
