“I am incredibly proud of our graduates for reaching this important milestone,” said Chancellor Juan Salgado, City Colleges of Chicago. “Earning a degree takes determination, sacrifice, and tenacity. Our students have shown what’s possible through hard work and now they have the tools to shape their future. They are an inspiration to us all.”

Five City Colleges of Chicago alumni now have some additional cash and support to pursue their bachelor’s degrees. The recent graduates are the latest recipients of The PepsiCo Foundation’s S.M.I.L.E. (Success Matters in Life and Education) Scholarship. The S.M.I.L.E. scholarship awards community college students who are transferring to a four-year university with renewable scholarships of up to $25,000.

These students were awarded the scholarship after demonstrating a history of academic success, leadership, strong work experience, and community involvement. They also won based on an essay about their life and future goals.

Students will not only receive financial support through this scholarship, but will also be equipped with the skills to succeed beyond college through access to professional development, networking, and mentorship opportunities.

Applications for the next round of the PepsiCo Foundation S.M.I.L.E. Scholarship will open in 2024. In the meantime, students are encouraged to create a profile at the Scholarship America Hub to apply for other scholarships.
