Today at Kennedy-King College’s Dawson Technical Institute, national, local, and college leaders met with new students to discuss how they can better support veterans in City College’s Utility Workers Military Assistance Program (UMAP).
The program is a national model and connects veterans with high-demand careers. Students take a series of general education and core courses for six months where they are focused on learning how to safely construct and operate natural gas distribution systems. It is all offered to veterans at no cost.

Power magazine reports there is a critical shortage of skilled workers today to fill these well-paid positions, in part, due to high retirement numbers. If you are a veteran and interested in this program click here to learn more.
