
This is the first collaboration between the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce® and City Colleges in direct service to the Hispanic Business Community. The new class is open to anyone, in Illinois or out of state, who would like to strengthen their small business acumen.
Today, Harold Washington College (HWC) and the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (IHCC) proudly unveiled a newly launched course—a class that helps small businesses scale and strengthen their business models. City Colleges and IHCC also gathered to celebrate the first class of students who completed the course in November.
The new course is 8-weeks in duration and titled an Introduction to Small Business Management and it is part of City Colleges of Chicago Continuing Education program. The next class starts on February 1 and concludes on March 22, 2023. The official course title is CE BUS 4080.
“City Colleges of Chicago is committed to supporting the next generation of entrepreneurs with this new course. The class is designed to give small businesses the tools they need to succeed. Small businesses have considerable economic impact at the local level and that’s why we are very proud of our new collaboration with IHCC and hope it’s the first of many in service to our great city,” said Juan Salgado, chancellor, City Colleges of Chicago.
Small businesses create many jobs and the healthy presence of small businesses in communities empowers the next generation of entrepreneurs. The non-credit course, Introduction to Small Business Management, was designed collaboratively by HWC and IHCC, and is for prospective and current small business owners, entrepreneurs, and managers who want to understand the fundamental principles of running a successful enterprise.
The Introduction to Small Business Management course consists of eight modules:
- Week 1 Module: Introduction to Entrepreneur and the Small Business Management
- Week 2 Module: Accounting Fundamental for Small Business
- Week 3 Module: Financial Analysis and Budgeting for Small Business Part I
- Week 4 Module: Financial Analysis and Budgeting for Small Business Part IIQ
- Week 5 Module: How to Attain Financing and Capital for the Small Business
- Week 6 Module: Small Business Marketing Plan and Budget
- Week 7 Module: Human Resource Management as it relates to team building and relationships
- Week 8 Module: Small Business Contingency Planning/Human Resource Capstone Project
The class analyzes real world business examples and includes class discussions, videos, news articles, and other materials that enhance the student learning experience. The cost is $450. To register or learn more click here.

Harold Washington College (HWC) is a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) and Minority Serving Institution (MSI) with more than 70 percent Latinx and African American students.
