AmeriCorps VISTAs at City Colleges of Chicago

You will have the unique opportunity to meet community leaders and build relationships with local organizations already doing the work. Together, we can create stronger communities for all.

CCC works to proactively eliminate barriers to employment and to address and overcome casual factors underlying socio-economic disparities and inequities of access and graduation in higher education. The VISTA project will seek to empower and support community members attain their educational goals. VISTA members will build partnerships with local organizations, build community amongst constituents, and develop a pipeline of support between CCC students and local organizations to develop a culture of volunteerism that would mutually benefit the student and partner organization over the course of a year.

VISTAs will:

Develop partnerships with local leaders and organizations that understand the needs of adults with no postsecondary degree

Develop a partnership with academic and support services at City Colleges to best understand and relay resources and academic programs available to community residents

Build a model to report hours of service and impact report

Coordinate volunteer opportunities throughout the semester to build a culture of volunteerism amongst students, staff, and faculty

Design service learning opportunity in partnership with faculty across the district

Identify skills, abilities, and experiences sought in volunteer mentors; create volunteer task descriptions that include qualifications, activities, benefits, time commitment, and other expectation
