Nicole Gould always pictured herself working with young people, and happily found her professional home at City Colleges as a college advisor, primarily for Star Scholars.
Vincent Smith is celebrating two big life moments this summer: receiving his high school diploma and earning his first college degree. The senior at Corliss STEM High School is the first student from his school to earn an associate degree from City Colleges of Chicago prior to high school graduation.
Conveniently, Olive-Harvey College is only about one mile away from Corliss, which made the decision to take free Early College classes an easy one. But it was also the smart choice for Vincent, who was able to gain useful knowledge and skills, in addition to college credits, over the last two years.
“The experience here at Olive-Harvey really taught me a variety of skills,” he said.
From technical knowledge to time management, Vincent says Olive-Harvey prepared him to continue his college journey. Now, he’s getting ready to study computer science or computer engineering at DePauw University in the fall with a full-ride scholarship. Vincent will have a head start on his bachelor’s degree, too, having already earned 30 credits.
