From the classroom to City Hall, Sendy Soto knows Wilbur Wright College gave her the foundation to build a successful career.

As a first-generation college student, Sendy relied on Wright College’s faculty and staff for insight about how to succeed in college. After completing her associate degree in sociology, Sendy traveled to Guatemala and worked with Habitat for Humanity before obtaining her bachelor’s degree at Northeastern University.

“It was a chance for me to continue to explore the fire within me that started at Wright College,” says Sendy.

Thanks to her varied experiences, Sendy landed a role as the city of Chicago’s First Chief Homelessness Officer. This job allows her to look at issues surrounding housing and homelessness from a government perspective for Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office and make meaningful change that impacts Chicagoans.

She encourages people in Chicago to consider City Colleges as an affordable and accessible option for education.

"City Colleges can help you shape the future that you want to have, even if at the moment, you don't know what that future is."
