Selina Badu was born and raised in Ghana, where she attended high school and served as a caretaker for her grandmother. That experience introduced Selina to the healthcare field and motivated her to pursue an education and future career in nursing. She came to Chicago in 2019 and started her college journey at Truman College.
While at Truman, Selina was named a Presidential Scholar for four semesters. She became a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success and the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Importantly, she also found a support system within the Student Services Department at Truman College. She credits those staff members, including her advisor, Jodi-Ann Browning-Bent, for her success and helping her develop into the person she is today.
Selina plans to transfer to Northern Illinois University this fall to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Her ultimate educational goal is to achieve a doctoral degree in nursing and establish a non-governmental organization to provide free medical services to those who are less privileged in Chicago and beyond.
