A career of service in the mental health field

When the COVID-19 pandemic began, La’Quahn Washington saw it as a sign from the universe that it was time to change careers. She’d always been drawn to helping others, and La’Quahn began her career of service in the mental health field. She realized she could pursue her passion and help children at the same time with a career in early childhood education.

Support from Olive-Harvey College and the One Million Degrees program gave La’Quahn access to coaching, tutoring, and networking opportunities that led to greater success in school and at home.

“I look at my daughter everyday and see how much I learn from my classes,” La’Quahn said. “I use my tools from my classes to raise my child.”

In spring 2022, La’Quahn graduated from Olive-Harvey with an associate degree in preschool education. Today, she is pursuing a double major in her bachelor’s degree program and has her sights on a master’s degree.

“I’m not going to stop. I’m going to keep going,” she said. “I’m trying to make sure everyone’s future is bright. These kids are our future.”
