Nursing is a challenging field, and the education to become a nurse is just as rigorous. Sharing the demands of the program with friends is valuable, and for one Malcolm X College mother and daughter – the experience hits close to home.

Katrina and Alexandra Flores are recent graduates of the Nursing program at Malcolm X College. Katrina, seeking a career change, chose Malcolm X for its affordability. Alexandra decided on the college after realizing that a four-year university wasn’t the right fit for her at the time, and the Star Scholarship made it an easy choice by covering her tuition.

“We were both ready at the same time,” Alexandra said. “Because the nursing program is so difficult, having my mom here, who knew exactly what I was going through, really helped me stay sane.”
