A first-generation college student who conquered adversity

Jose has conquered a lot of adversity: being a first-generation student, being a native Spanish speaker, and being displaced from his home after a fire. No matter what he faced, he focused on his education and in May 2018 completed his associate in arts degree at Daley College. He was an active student on campus as a Star scholar, One Million Degrees member, and part of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

Jose plans to transfer to Elmhurst College to major in psychology. His hard work has paid off with a full scholarship from Elmhurst College, as well as the US Dream Scholarship.
