For Jacqueline Urquizo, Daley College feels like home. She took Early College classes at Daley in high school, earned her associate in arts from the college, and now, she’s back as an employee.

While enrolled as a high school student at Pathways in Education, Jacqueline worked hard. This allowed her to earn college credits as an early college student at Daley and graduate high school a year early. Despite receiving full scholarships to several four-year universities, Jacqueline opted to take advantage of the Star Scholarship, which allowed her to stay close to home and attend Daley at no cost. Jacqueline didn’t regret it, as Daley proved to be a supportive environment and a great fit.

“I felt at home. I felt a sense of community and familiarity when I enrolled at Daley,” she said.

The feeling of belonging deepened through her involvement in student activities that honored her culture, like celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and Day of the Dead. She also benefited from the Wellness Center.

“I enjoyed having someone there for me on campus. Having a designated person to talk to when I wasn’t feeling my best was helpful,” Jacqueline said.

Now, Jacqueline works as a testing specialist at Daley. Dean of Enrollment Management Jesse Godina encouraged her to apply for the position, knowing she would thrive in a familiar and supportive setting. Interacting with new students has become a highlight of her work. She enjoys being able to share her own experiences with them and encourages them to find community on campus.

Jacqueline balances her part-time work at Daley with her full-time studies in the accelerated business administration program at National Louis University. In the future, she hopes to continue working in higher education, although she’s also considering a path in public relations. Her achievements are a testament to the power of building community.
