Brian Lee has big plans for the future, and Daley College is helping him prepare to achieve them.
As a first-generation college student, Ivette Trevino feels proud of having received her associate degree from Richard J. Daley College in 2005.
“Working at my pace at my time, at Daley, really prepared me for where I’m at today,” said Ivette.
Ivette enrolled in accounting and business courses in 1999-2002 that sparked a huge interest and passion in the field. Learning about business plans, business research, and finance at Daley intrigued Ivette so much that it led her to find a job at the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (IHCC) – an agency that helps small businesses. Her time with IHCC was enough for Ivette to understand that small business programming and advocacy was her passion.
“For me Daley made sense. It provided a safe space to be comfortable, ask questions, connect with teachers… it prepared me to transfer to National Louis,” said Ivette, who went on to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management from National Louis University.
As a lifelong learner, she was accepted into the Mujeres de HACE program with the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement and the Chicago Latino Caucus Foundation Leadership Academy. Both programs were focused on developing leadership skills and growing social and political capital. The programs prepared her to become the executive director at the Little Village Chamber of Commerce. Her passion and success in supporting small businesses led her to be appointed by Mayor Lightfoot to the City of Chicago – Women’s Advisory Council and the Community Development Commission.
Today, Ivette Trevino is the chief relations officer at Wynndalco Enterprises LLC, a minority-owned IT firm and supporter of the Seven Strong Speaker Series benefiting City Colleges of Chicago Foundation. Ivette continues her civic engagement and serves as a trustee for the National Mexican Museum of Art.
