About This Program

Explore two pathways through The Rivian Technical Trades program at Olive-Harvey College.

Pre-Apprenticeship Program

This program runs for approximately 12–15 weeks and is designed for individuals who possess some basic, transferable skills: Ideal candidates should be able to take direction well, have basic familiarity with hand tools, and demonstrate foundational computer literacy.

Apprenticeship Program

This program is a 5-month training program where students learn the latest electric vehicle technologies inside the classroom and put those theories into practice with hands-on training. It is intended for individuals with prior experience in automotive technology. The curriculum is more advanced and will build upon existing auto tech knowledge.

You will:

  • Get hands-on training from Rivian training staff
  • Earn $22–$26/hour as an apprentice at a local Rivian service center assisting Rivian Service Technicians with general repairs, mobile repairs, and any additional tasks requested from the service team.
  • Upon successful completion, students will have the opportunity to become a Rivian Service Technician which could earn you $50,000+ annually.
  • Tools and uniforms provided (pants, boots, polos)
  • Receive medical benefits during apprenticeship/pre-apprenticeship (optional)

Program Schedule

Students must complete a minimum of 40 hours per week: combined time between class sessions and on-the-job training, 5-6 days a week, depending upon business needs.

Monday – Thursday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., at Olive-Harvey and Friday and/or Saturday at Rivian

Requirements:

  • Open to students 18 years or older
  • Have prior automotive knowledge or a Basic Certificate in Automotive Tech
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems
  • Must have a valid driver’s license in the state of residence
  • Pass background and document verification report (DVR) check
  • Willing to relocate to one of the Rivian’s service centers based on demand – relocation stipend provided

The Rivian Technical Trades program is eligible for Future Ready and Project Evolve.

*Tuition waived for eligible Chicago residents through the Future Ready Program. The Future Ready Program is open to Chicago residents who meet certain requirements. Visit ccc.edu/futureready to learn more.
