About the National Welcome Back Initiative

Since its inception in 2001, the Welcome Back Initiative has served close to 15,000 participants from 167 countries with a mission to build a bridge between the pool of internationally trained health workers already living in the United States and the need for linguistically and culturally competent health services in underserved communities. The centers work closely with participants to develop career pathway plans that builds on their education, experience, and skills.

Although the Chicago Welcome Back Center is partnering with the national network of services we are not an independent agency or non-profit, but rather a City Colleges-funded program under Daley College’s Office of Continuing Education. The staff at the Chicago Welcome Back Center are Daley College CE employees, and the entire program is part of our CE department’s year-round services.
