Teaching Online Learning (Async) Courses with Brightspace at CCC – Credentialing
Teaching Async Online Learning Courses in Brightspace at CCC is a 3-week, asynchronous, online course facilitated by CCC faculty. It defines online/async and hybrid courses, covers an instructor’s role and responsibilities for teaching them, and shows you how to use Brightspace tools needed for effective teaching.
You should plan to spend 8-10 hours/week on course activities. If you don’t complete the first week’s activities by the end of the first week, you will be asked to restart the course at a later date.
In order to be fully credentialed to teach asynchronous online courses, you must:
a. Complete Quality Matters: Teaching Online – An Introduction to Online Delivery (TOL) and Applying the QM Rubric (APPQMR), in addition to completing BSP 201
OR
b. Already possess the Master Online Teacher (MOT) credential through ION:
- Instructional Design for Online Course Development (MOT)
- Overview of Online Instruction (MOT)
- Student Assessment in Online Courses (MOT)

Asynchronous Teaching Credentialing at CCC
BSP 201 is an online, asynchronous, facilitated three-week course. It defines online and hybrid courses, covering instructors’ roles and responsibilities for teaching online and/or hybrid courses at any of the seven CCC colleges. The course shows you how to use Brightspace tools needed for effective teaching.
Week 1 focuses on introductions, Brightspace’s basic tools and navigation, the syllabus, and how to prepare your loaded course for the new term.
Week 2 focuses on Brightspace’s advanced tools, allowing time for instructors to practice.
Week 3 focuses on feedback, evaluation and the Grades Tool.
Each week, you’ll have Brightspace Sandbox tasks to complete in your sandbox, which are then reviewed by the facilitator.
You must achieve a score of 90 of the 105 possible points to pass the course, complete all discussions (including moderating one discussion) and the three quizzes. In keeping with Quality Matters standards, all assignments must be completed at the 85% level with three attempts allowed.
