AI in 45: A Classroom-Tested Approach to Academic Integrity and Learning with Generative AI

Rather than relying on AI detection tools or blanket prohibitions, this approach embeds clear expectations for anchored in-text citation and explanation, making student reasoning visible even when generative AI tools are permitted. Professor Yev Lapik will walk participants through the project as a reusable teaching artifact, highlighting how pairing explicit assignment structures with shared, student-facing language about AI reduces ambiguity around acceptable use and supports academic integrity. The approach emphasizes transparency, and instructional judgment, aligning with CCC GenAI policies and equity goals. Participants will see how this model can be adapted across disciplines by modifying existing assignments rather than creating new ones from scratch.

Professor Yev Lapik

Yev Lapik is a biology and nutrition professor and former molecular biology researcher whose work bridges science education, visual communication, and AI literacy. She is also a Digital Media Design student at City Colleges of Chicago. Her teaching focuses on fostering human judgment and assessing student learning. She suggests AI be treated as an instrument, not an authority.

The Academic Excellence Framework (AEF) clearly prioritizes the skills, activities, initiatives, roles, and goals that directly support consistently strong teaching and learning at City Colleges of Chicago.
