When a global pandemic halted Sheila’s original educational plans, she discovered a new pathway at Richard J. Daley College while working in manufacturing.

Sheila chose Daley because of their Manufacturing Technology and Engineering Center (MTEC), which houses the CNC Engineering program.

While working full-time and attending Daley, Sheila struggled at times. It was challenging to find time in her busy schedule to attend classes, she had to pay for her education of out pocket, and she was working in a male-dominated field.

Sheila hopes pursuing the male-dominated manufacturing industry as a woman will expose even more women to the possibility that they can do this too. She now has her sights on taking her education a step further and becoming an engineer.

By attending Daley, Sheila has received a promotion in her career and is looking for opportunities to do more.

When Sheila first sought out an education at Daley, her goal was to obtain a certificate. But the more she pushed herself, the more she realized that there was far more to manufacturing than what she thought.

And that has motivated her to continue in her journey.
