City Colleges of Chicago is excited to be launching the new Machine Learning University (MLU) program with industry leaders from Amazon Web Services (AWS)! To set students up for success in this new program, we are offering this focused, foundational Python Fundamentals Boot Camp.
This condensed class focuses on the fundamental concepts and terms you will need to strengthen before you start the program of five classes that make up the Machine Learning University. The CCC MLU is a rigorous non-credit program that will run through the next 12 months and prepare learners for work in many in-demand fields.
The full MLU program is for those already familiar with cloud computing concepts, linear algebra, statistical probability, and coding (Python or equivalent). To ensure success in this program, students should have the following background:
- Linear algebra
- Statistical probability
- Fundamentals of programming (Python, C++, Java, …)
- Cloud Foundations (AWS Academy)
The preliminary Python Fundamentals Boot Camp will bolster your existing coding skills in preparation for the MLU classes and is intended for students continuing with the full MLU program.
The boot camp consists of written materials, lecture videos, and coding exercises that will reinforce Python concepts for those with some programming experience (enough to recognize a "variable" or "if statement”). You do not need to be an expert programmer to benefit from this material. The first exercises work on basic concepts like strings and lists, building up to the later exercises dealing with text files, processes, and http connections.
Course Dates:
- Start: Tuesday, September 12, 2023
- End: Saturday, September 30, 2023
The boot camp will cover the basics of Python, including:
- How to use Python
- Basic objects: integers, floats, strings, booleans, lists, and dictionaries
- Basic functions
- Writing loops and conditionals
- Writing functions
- Loading and working with files
- Basic error handling
- Importing modules
- Using Jupyter notebooks
- Solving problems with logic
If you are familiar with a programming language but want to refresh your knowledge before applying to participate in the boot camp, we highly recommend you watch these Python Programming Concepts videos:
